Today I am SO excited to share with you a super cheap but VERY cool game you can whip up for your Nerf loving kids – these fantasy creature pool noodle targert! I first saw the idea when shopping on Amazon… but they wanted $15 for a simple target printed on the noodle.
So of course… I was stoked to make my own version that could be custom to his Skyrim/orc fascination AND only cost about $2 to make!
How to Make Your Nerf Target “Cans”
While we have definitely dug through recycling in the past to get some empty cans, I love the pool noodle “can” much better as it’s not sharp or sticky! In the printable pack at the end of this article, I have also included the standard point based cans W(targets with a 5 or 10 on them) if that works better for you.
Watch below to see how I made mine!
DIY Nerf Target "Cans"
These inexpensive but awesome monster themed Nerf "cans" are so fun and perfect for your Nerf themed party!
Materials
- 1 Large Pool Noodle (roughly 3" diameter)
- Mod Podge
- Printable Packet of Target Templates (at the bottom of the post)
Tools
- Paint Brush
- Knife
Instructions
- Cut Noodle to Size - Each noodle piece should be around 4". I found it easiest to use a knife, but be sure to cut straight or else they will lean!
- Pick and Cut Out Template - I did the creatures template, but there's also the standard points and target template too! Cut out the label as well as the tops and bottom templates so that everything is ready to go.
- Paste on the Templates - I used Mod Podge with a paint brush as it's super effective at tough surfaces like the smooth and curved texture of the pool noodle.
- Paste on the Tops/Bottoms - This can be a bit harder, depending on how smooth your cuts are. Luckily, Mod Podge is really good at seeping into the pores of the noodle and holding strong.
- Enjoy! - I had to darn near lock my son out of my office until I was done because he was so excited about these! He insisted on first dibs testing it (when it was still in the lightbox!)
Ready to Conquer the Orc Army?!
You can choose any number of creatures to use – I just did the standard stacking with 3 orcs on the bottom, 2 stone guys in the middle, and a dragon on top! If you’d like, you can also assign points to these.
Here is the PDF pack with everything you need – I kindly ask you not to share or resale these!
