How to Play Mad Libs

If you’ve never played before, here’s the quick rundown! Mad Libs are fill-in-the-blank stories where one person asks for different types of words (a noun, a verb, an adjective, etc.) WITHOUT reading the story out loud first. Everyone shouts out their answers, the blanks get filled in, and THEN the story gets read aloud – usually with hilarious results!

Here’s a quick cheat sheet for the word types you’ll see in our stories:

  • Noun – a person, place, or thing (example: bear, marshmallow, tent)
  • Verb – an action word (example: run, wiggle, snore)
  • Adjective – a describing word (example: slimy, enormous, sparkly)
  • Adverb – describes how something is done, usually ends in -ly (example: loudly, sneakily, wildly)
  • Plural noun – more than one of something (example: pinecones, raccoons, s’mores)
