Are you looking for a fun and engaging activity to do with your kids this spring? Look no further than a spring scavenger hunt! This outdoor adventure is perfect for getting kids excited about nature and the changing seasons. Plus, it’s easy to plan and customize based on your child’s age and abilities.
To help you get started, I’ve put together a list of 20+ items to include in your own spring scavenger hunt as well as a pre made printable scavenger hunt list as well with two different difficulty levels.
Why Host a Spring Scavenger Hunt?
Spring is the perfect time to get outside and explore nature. The weather is getting warmer, flowers are blooming, and animals are coming out of hibernation. And if you live somewhere that gets cold or snows during winter, all the color is super exciting!
I personally *love* scavenger hunts as they encourage kids to hike and explore a bit more than they normally would.
How to Plan Your Spring Scavenger Hunt
- Choose a location: Start by picking a location for your scavenger hunt. It could be in your backyard, a park, or even a nature trail. These scavenger hunt printables I made work for any of them.
- If Making Your Own, Determine the Number of Items: Decide how many items you want to include on your list. I recommend anywhere from 10-20 items depending on the age and abilities of your child.
- Create Your List: Get creative with the items on your list! You can include things like different types of flowers, insects, or even natural landmarks. If we’re somewhere different than normal, I love including native wildlife/plants.
- Prepare Materials: Gather any necessary materials such as pencils, clipboards and cameras (this can also be a photo challenge!)
- Print out the checklist: Use your own list or the free ones provided below and get exploring!
