The Most Popular 17 Foot Travel Trailer Floor Plans This Year!

If you’re looking to maximize your maneuverability and access tons of cool places, then you may want to check out these awesome 17 foot travel trailer floor plans!

All of these models (well… one is 17’6) are actually 17 ft or less – sometimes you will see “17” in a model name, but when you account for the hitch and spare tire it can come up to over 20″! That means it will be way easier to park in campsites, lighter to pull and of course, more likely of a chance you can afford it.

Before we start, you should know that when campers are this small (17 ft and under!) features like a cassette toilet, outdoor kitchen, wet bath, and non dedicated sleeping spaces are much more common. It can be hard to get it all in 17 ft, so make sure you know what your priorities are when shopping around.

This list includes focuses on model year 2024, and is updated yearly or as I hear about the discontinuance of models for any reason.

Airstream Bambi

via Airstream.com

The Airstream Bambi is a well design, slick looking travel trailer that manages to fit a bit into it’s small size! The Bambi does come in bigger size floorplans, but this is the only one under 17 ft. It somehow manages to pack a dinette, dedicated sleep space, kitchen and restroom in it!

You’ve probably seen an Airstream before, so you know they are absolutely gorgeous – you should also know they are considered luxury. The standard build is nice, but there are tons of additional optional equipment options like solar and upgraded interiors.

Not that it matters, but the black and grey tanks are combined here (as they are in most models this size). They still get emptied the same way so…

  • Length: 16′
  • Dry Weight: 3,050 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 4 people
  • Bathroom: Yes
  • Fresh Water Tank: 23 Gallons

Forest River R-Pod 107C:

forest river r pod rp-107c floorplan

Coming in at 15′ and super light at 1,789 lbs, the Forest River R-Pod RP-107C is perfect for couples looking to have the ability to camp anywhere. It’s small size combined with stellar construction (one piece roof, enclosed underbelly, aluminum framing) make it able to handle a bit more than your average small camper.

Most small trailer floor plans will feature and outdoor kitchen set up – in this case, it’s located in the back. However, there is a decent amount of shelving and storage in that kitchen area, and the back door acts as a shade/rain protector of sorts for while you’re cooking.

This is probably the most ultra-lightweight trailer option on the list so is the perfect travel trailer floorplan if you don’t have a “strong” towing vehicle a small truck could do the job! =D

  • Length: 15′
  • Dry Weight: 1,789 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 2 people
  • Bathroom: No
  • Fresh Water Tank: 30 Gallons

Casita Spirit 17

via casitatraveltrailers.com

Casitas have always stood out as very well made campers – and the Spirit 17 is no exception! For example, the fiberglass shell and bottom hull are sealed together with additional fiberglass, ensuring pretty insane water resistance (and it’s super light!).

I do love that there are so many giant windows for natural light. Short campers can feel stuffy quick, but the ability to have air flow and good views alleviates that! The Casita premium package offers even more nice options.

And if you’re someone who’s had bad experiences with water damage and mold, this is the perfect choice for you – it is is built with Lakeside Low-Pro Wall material that is heavy-duty, water resistant and ultra mold resistant.

  • Length: 17′
  • Dry Weight: 2,210 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 3 people
  • Bathroom: Yes (wetbath)
  • Fresh Water Tank: 30

Scamp 16′ (Layout 3)

via scamptrailers.com

The Scamp 16′ comes in ALOT of floor plans (as of 2024, 7 different ones that are all 16′!) However “Layout 3” is one of my favorites as it is one of the bunkhouse models – at the front is a couch that converts to bunks, and at the back is the convertible dinette bed.

This could be an ideal solution for a family and two kids that’s able to be towed by an SUV. With dependability that is hard to beat (they have been making trailers since the 70s!) it’s also not a bad investment that’s easy to sell as the family grows.

One thing to note – Layout 3 gets a bunk bed in place of the space needed for a toilet/shower like in Layout 6… so prioritize which you need more!

  • Length: 16′
  • Dry Weight: 1,760 lbs – 2,000 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 3 people
  • Bathroom: Not in this floorplan
  • Fresh Water Tank: 12 Gallons

Cortes 17

via cortescampers.com

Cortes Campers are well built and definitely have a good, homey feeling. While most other short travel trailers can only carry an additional couple hundred pounds, the cargo capacity of this one can can pack almost 1,000 lbs more.

To achieve the extra durability, Cortes uses pretty advanced materials – a double hull with honeycomb core, no wood, carpet, or linoleum (nothing to rot or mold!), double paned windows, and their 100% solid one-piece fiberglass shell.

If you loved the quality construction but not the weight, they announced the addition of new models that are 1,000 lbs less!

  • Length: 17′
  • Dry Weight: 2,680 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 2 people
  • Bathroom: Yes
  • Fresh Water Tank: 21 Gallons

Escape 17B

via escapetrailer.com

The Escape 17b is an ultra lightweight trailer designed to be able to be pulled by SUVs and small trucks and is perfect for small families – having an actual toilet and multiple floorplan options for extra seating and bed space are very handy with kids.

I love all the interior storage space (check out the floor plan… LOTS of cabinets!) and all the extra options featured. Their website is really easy to use to customize and price the exact build you want… which I appreciate as a homebody who gets sold into things fast when at an actual dealership.

  • Length: 17’8 (technically over but… it’s good!)
  • Dry Weight: 2,640 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 3 people
  • Bathroom: Wet bath (with a 13.2 Gal Blackwater Tank!)
  • Fresh Water Tank: 20 Gallon

Winnebago Hike 100 (H1316DB Floorplan)

via winnebago.com

With five unique floorplans, the Winnebago Hike 100 manages to include a layout for every time of camping lifestyle and camper. This is Winnebagos’s smallest size travel trailer (even smaller than their “Mico Minnies which are actually over 21 ft!) but I appreciate that, in all floorplans, there is a wet bath!

Beyond that, you’ll primarily need to decide between having a committed dinette or having extra sleep space. You’ll also have to embrace the outside kitchen!

An important thing to mention is that this model is designed to boondock – aka, go off road a little! It really opens up more options to camp at since you’ll actually be able to get into them. Checkout these other light weight off-roading travel trailers if that’s something you want to look more into!

  • Length: 17’8 (technically over but… it’s good!)
  • Dry Weight: 2,640 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 3 people
  • Bathroom: Wet bath (with a 13.2 Gal Blackwater Tank!)
  • Fresh Water Tank: 20 Gallon

Bigfoot RV B17FB

via bigfootrv.com

Bigfoot travel trailers are made with four season use in mind – even it’s smallest floorplans, like the B17FB! Features like high density insulation, thermal pane windows as well as heated and enclosed water tanks are standard – this means you’ll get way more bang for your buck without worry of freezing pipes or burning through your propane.

This floorplan has tons of overhead storage as well as a dinette that can turn into extra sleeping area. I love a dedicated bed (making the bed every morning because it’s also your dinette gets annoying), so this is also a bonus.

Bigfoot RVs interior design includes durable features like a stainless steel deep sink and pretty wood cabinetry!

  • Length: 17’5 (technically over but… it’s good!)
  • Dry Weight: 3,360 lbs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 3 people
  • Bathroom: Wet bath (21 Gal Black Water)
  • Fresh Water Tank: 31 Gallon

The only camper I’m sharing exterior pics of because it’s so beautiful. Via nucamprv.com

This is the *absolute* cutest camper on this entire list! With a modern twist on a retro look (the pastels.. the curves.. the shapes of the windows!), this camper is sure to be a hit! I know I would take a picture next to it! =P

It has fun glamping additions like a 3 bottle wine rack, butcher block countertops and a stylish update to the traditional industrial looking wet baths. This is the perfect trailer for anyone who wants to travel in style – I would recommend staying to fair weather campgrounds, and that’s ok!

The lightweight construction of this rig has it only weighing 2,129 pounds. Don’t worry though – there’s tons of built in pockets and available space for storage still!

The back half of the camper is a dinette and turns into a decent size bed (with lots of windows around!)

  • Length: 16’7
  • Dry Weight: 2,129
  • Sleeping Capacity: 2 people
  • Bathroom: Wet bath (5 Gal Black Water)
  • Fresh Water Tank: 26Gallon

Do you like campers with a beautiful theme? Then you’ll love this I Love Lucy themed camper too!

nuCamp RV TAB CS

via nucamprv.com

I know I already have another nuCamp on here, but it’s hard to avoid including them twice as small campers are kind of their specialty! The CS (clamshell) model includes a beautiful outdoor kitchen with pretty wood features and tons of storage.

This camper is about comfort – big sleeping area (from the converted dinette), a nice Alde heating system for hot showers and pretty, updated interior – no dark wood or grey boring material here!

I do also love the off grid aspect of it – the included solar panel package makes boondocking and saving money on campgrounds way easier.

  • Length: 15’6
  • Dry Weight: 2,146 bs
  • Sleeping Capacity: 2 people
  • Bathroom: Yes (wet bath, 5 Gal blackwater)
  • Fresh Water Tank – 19 gal

Did you see any you liked? Check these out if not!

I *love* diving into the details of all the camper brands – there’s so many out there, many of which are awesome brands but not commonly known. I have created other roundups of campers based on specifications that are common to look for when shopping for a new camper.
